Victorian style
The following range contains items of jewellery that have been inspired by the ornate carving that was such a large feature of the Victorian work. Whitby had many highly skilled carvers in the 19thC such as Greenbury, Speedy, and Lythe and it is the delicate cut and facet work that they introduced that we try to incorporate in the various styles. Amongst the finest work are the ear drops. We feature the traditional ring and shackle assembly on many of these ornately carved items inorder that we may produce an authentic reproduction of Victorian elegance. Ornate ring and shackle dropsAll the following drops are inspired by the Victorian carvers of Whitby who established a fashion genre in jewellery that lasted for some seventy years. Each is a one off but through out the year I will be adding to the range. | ||

 | £99.99Carved ring and flower (VSD002) This pair is made from a ring of Jet with deeply carved shoulders opened up with three holes. Inside the ring is a suspended flower also opened with tiny holes. This is attached to a carved shackle which gives plenty of movement to the piece.  | £99.99Greenbury shackle drops (VSD003) Here the drop is opened out with a triangular cut out. A rope pattern has been carved around the edge intersperced with cut and groove carving. A plain high dome cabochon is inlaid into a serrated recess. The whole is suspended from a plain shackle. There is plenty of detail and lots of light play. Width 21mm and the over all length is 48mm.  | £99.99Facetted rings with ammonite inlay (VSD006) A pair of facetted rings on a carved shackle and facetted smaller ring. Suspended in the middle of the lower ring is small facetted bead (10x8mm) with a matched pair of ammonites (6mm) inlaid into them. The over all length is 40mm and the width is 22mm. Carved dropsThese drops feature cut and facet work taken from actual Victorian designs in my own collection and are genuine 19thC patterns. They can be carved in a variety of sizes from 25mm to 40mm approximately. The following prices are for the larger versions but I am happy to quote for smaller sizes. The findings can be fitted in gold or silver. These styles were extremely popular in Victorian times and still find a place in contemporary jewellery collections. | ||
 | £99.99Ornate leaf and rose (VPD001) The base has a stylized rose carving followed by an intricate cut and facet pattern on the bottom third.  | £99.99Large ornately carved drops (VPD002) The bottom and top thirds feature a swirled leaf pattern, in the centre is an intricate four leaf pattern brought into high relief by two adjacent turned grooves. The style is a fine example of the lead wheel cutting (see workshop page) done by the 19thC craftsmen and although I now use smaller diamond wheels it is still a beautiful but challenging design. It is a complex mix of turned and polished grooves that compliment traditional 'pineapple'work on the the top section and domed centre section. Carved studsThese studs are also inspired by the Victorian carvers of Whitby, many of which developed their own signature style. Many of the design cuts have been taken from actual Victorian pieces and replicated in a smaller size. Remember that studs can be made with 9ct gold posts or produced as a clip version as an optional extra. The sizes illustrated are general guidelines, designs can be carved to suit just let me know your preferred size. | ||
